This week brings us a huge step forward, as we finally get a coat of primer on our helm and steps.
This is a project we have been working on here and there since November, with so many tweaks and little pieces coming together.
From the helm that was originally shipped to us in the container, we brought it further forward to the cockpit bulkhead and had to make many adjustments for it to sit in its new place. Steps were first mocked up, and then once it was warm enough out to do glassing in the ambient air of the tent, we were able to build the steps and the storage area that sits next to them.
Now, after bonding all these pieces together and fairing them to a smooth finish, we're able to coat all of it with our Super Build Primer from Alexseal Paint. The transformation has honestly left me breathless and so giddy for things to come! To think that something we planned out and built with our own hands looks like it always been a molded part of the boat, makes me so excited for how the rest of our catamaran is going to come together.
We hope you enjoy!
Thank you SO MUCH to all our Patrons for your continued support. Without your help, these videos, And This Build, would not be possible.

Overhead Work SUCKS!! (MJ Sailing - Ep 334)
Переглядів 28 тис.День тому
Temperatures are scorching, and we're inside covered in a paste of sweat and sanding dust. Work goes hard on the cabin top with hopes to get it primed in the next few days. This week has had record breaking heat, making it impossible to tackle some crucial laminating projects. However, we’re not letting the heat slow us down! We’ve been focusing on sanding and fairing with determination. We're ...

Enhancing Access To Our Winches (MJ Sailing - Ep 332)
Переглядів 26 тис.Місяць тому
In our helm station we have built a custom underside panel which will give us easy access to service our winches. This week we make a big visual impact within our cockpit and helm area by bonding in the underside of our helm area (which will give us easy access to our winches) as well as line and general storage space next to our steps. The components for these have been partially assembled ove...

The number of innuendos I didn't even know I made. I need to add a white caulk to the seam where our cockpit seats and bulkhead come together, and at 6cm wide, it is no easy task. Matt and I have been working hard in the tent, and we're all about prepping areas for the helm and cockpit doors! While we're not there yet, these steps are pretty important and will let us move on to the bigger thing...

CATAMARAN BUILD - Choosing Our Interior & Exterior Lighting (MJ Sailing - Ep 329)

We're back to working on our own boat and it feels so good! In this week's episode we give a rundown of the lighting options we've chosen to go with, even if it will be a little bit before we get to install them. Genuinely impressed with "6 months in 6 minutes" section showing the work you put in! Phenomenal. And it really does look great - owners cabin and helm are very impressive with primer on. That sports car was pretty darned impressive, too. Genuine question - do you have to literally scrub hard in the shower some days to get off the various coatings you must get on you? I mean more than just soap and water - a scouring pad, for example. Maybe I'm particularly attractive to paint and it's relatives.

    • @MJSailing
      @MJSailing День тому

To be honest, each day I go in the shower with a loofah and body soap, and whatever doesn't come off with that just stays on because I'm too tired and too lazy to really do anything about it, haha.

@@MJSailing I'm with you on that! You absolutely work darned hard day after day! And I'd do the same as you - but I do get frustrated when some things just don't want to be removed!

Excellent! - I am curious if the fiber glassing done? possibly some in the engine area? Now trying to envision the floor material and what I would want it to feel like on bare feet. Then would I want to run it continuously from the outside through the main galley. Not sure I would want natural cork- unless it was a no wax or polish product. toured a old aircraft carrier- liked how the old linoleum felt-- which I think had cork and linseed oil in it- plus then being polished. keep thinking replaceable carpet treads on the stairs- swap them out every few years. possibly were they snap on.

What a waste of time on this build. By the time you ever get it finished you will have wasted 4-6 years of sailing. Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow. Oh, and a self build means no warranty once things don’t work as expected. Every sailor knows new boats always have problems. Foolish…
